Our city is facing numerous concurrent crises, and Soren is committed to making dramatic progress in addressing the housing, addiction, and mental health crises within the first 18 months of being elected. 

Soren's platform is focused on investing in policies that will have a high rate of return for the public's investment, and that will make Portland the premier example for progressive policy. Soren is committed to ensuring that the 2025 City Council passes impactful policy that will ensure that Portland is one of the leading cultural, environmental, and economic hubs of the country in the coming months, years, and decades.

 

Build Capacity of Social Services

  • Urgently invest in increased housing capacity
  • Urgently invest in additional addiction treatment and detox facilities
  • Urgently invest in mental health resources
  • Fully fund the Portland Street Response

Accountability and Transparency

  • Invest in Public-owned direct social service delivery
  • Evaluate all partnerships for effectiveness
  • Break down barriers between city departments and agencies

Community Development and Partnership

  • Recruit high-need licensed professionals to live and work in Portland proper
  • Invest in community-based organizations that develop neighborhood relationships

  • Fast-track permitting for projects that result in net positive housing
  • Invest in mixed-use housing and parkway development to ensure additional desirable walkable neighborhoods are developed
  • Fully fund and expand the Portland Street Response
     

Accountability

  • Create participatory budgeting
  • Hold monthly town hall meetings in every District 4 neighborhood


Community

  • Fully staff and fund warming and cooling shelters on all nights with dangerous temperatures
  • Invest in protected bike lanes
  • Support the Clean Energy Fund's use for Environmental projects, and not repurposed for other programs
  • Create Shade Equity across the city
